Will Sonia Gandhi give justice for Aman Kachru?

March 16th 2009 14:37

This is an open letter to Mrs Sonia Gandhi, an appeal for justice and an appeal to help us preserve our community and its future. We are Kashmiri Pandits, we are a minority and we do not have any quota or reservation in the vidhan parishad or in the Rajya Sabha or in the local self government. We are outsiders everywhere and we are the relatives of the parents of Aman Kachru who was brutally left to die in a medical college after being beaten by his drunken seniors. Dear Mrs Gandhi we have several questions to ask you today.
Will the Medical Council take note of Aman’s death? Will Ramadoss do something about it? I think not for Aman does not come from a community that represents a vote bank. But here one fact can neither be ignored by the Kashmiri Community in general, or Mr Rahul Gandhi who is the closest thing we have to a representative in Parliament, because there is no quota for a representative of the Kashmiri Pandit community in the Rajya Sabha or Mrs Sonia Gandhi, that justice for Aman has already been delayed because he is now dead and no one bothered to listen to him. Therefore we are not satisfied with the arrest of a few students for killing Aman Kachru, we want that the licence of the medical college where he died, be terminated, as it was the gross neglect of the authorities that led to Aman’s death.

How can someone that too a student of a medical college die due to a beating unless there was a deliberate attempt by the college authorities to neglect him after the beating and unless they felt he deserved the beating for having dared to speak out against the locals of the area who dominate the police, the education set up the political set up and the mafia in almost every local area. Locals are supreme. Aman’s crime was that he dared to speak up against this caucus of educationists, mafia dons, corrupt cops and indolent officials. He defied a corrupt and sick and rotten establishment and paid for his life. He paid for his life because he was from a minority community and an outsider. He was treated worse than a stray dog.

To begin with Aman is a Kashmiri and comes from a community that is a distinct minority in the country but enjoys no privileges or quota because they are not a major vote bank. One of the major tragedies of the Indian polity is that unless you are a major minority and in sizeable numbers you will not get any political support. Such a pity and such a mockery of the ideals of the founding fathers of our Constitution.
Nineteen-year-old Aman Kachroo from Gurgaon was a bright student. An alumni of DPS, he took admission in Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh and he aspired to be a doctor. A little did he know that he would be brutally ragged and beaten to death by seniors.
The seniors were reportedly drunk - Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma had brutally beaten up Aman since he was not a local. He was continuously harassed and beaten by his seniors and he had given several complaints to college authorities and local police, but they took no action.
The post-mortem examination report shows that Aman died of head injuries and numerous other injuries. He was in a medical college and he could have been easily attended to, so why was he left to die by college authorities and students? Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Dear Rahulji are we safe in this county? Because nowhere are we locals.
So can we hope for justice? Will this medical college where a murder most foul has occurred be shut down? For only then will there be justice for Aman.
We therefore submit before you a three-point charter of demands:
1- There should be a representative of our community in the Assembly of states where Kashmiri Pandits live because we are a distinct minority.
2- There should be a representative of our community in Parliament to ensure that we have someone to approach in times of crisis to prevent such incidents in future.
3- Lastly the medical college where Aman was left to die should be shut down or the management and trustees changed or it should be taken over by the Central Government.
