Mubai terror needs new weapons

The terror attack on Mumbai comes at a time when the tourist season is about to take off, and will surely hit the tourism industry in India too. Mumbai has been the favourite target of terrorists since 1993 but what has happened here is unique almost as if militants were trying to do a remake of the attack on the Marriot hotel in Pakistan in Mumbai.
What is disturbing about this attack is that it has shown that there is need in India not a for law to counter terror but for weapons and equipment to counter terror. In one night the top brass of the flower and chivalry of the Maharashtra Police ATS was wiped out. They were dead even before the attack was a few hours old. In such a situation state governments and political parties need to stop playing games and ask themselves why this happened and how it could have been prevented. Is there equipment that could have increased surveillance and made it possible for the ATS to ‘see’ what was going on so that they did not have to walk into a hail of bullents. Are there rifles capable of penetrating walls and gunning down suspects. We keep hearing of such weapons being up for sale in the arms fairs held world wide and see them being publicised on Discovery Channel. So rather than harping over laws to give politicians teeth we should try and arrange proper weapons and armour for our security personnel so that we don’t end up dishing out medals to their widows and pensions to their dependents. But this will not suit our netas who only want more power to loot the state exchequer and curb the voice of opposition and dissent. In short what has happened in Mumbai is due to the lack of foresight of our politicians who were too busy squabbling with themselves and never bothered to think of the security of our country. WE DON’T NEED A LAW to check terror in India. We NEED TRAINED PERSONNEL CARRYING SOPHISTICATED EQUIPMENT. By pitting our policemen and their vintage rifles against modern weapons we are committing the murder of our fellow Indians.
