Ramzan, rumors, Mulayam Singh and Peace Party

September 2nd 2010 07:03

The rumor mills are busy in the month of Ramzan in Uttar Pradesh, regarding its political future. Will the state go to polls early in 2011 itself, will Mayawati dissolve the govt and so on. Then are rumors regarding the popularity of the Congress party. Will Rahul Gandhi’s magic work in the state? Rahul’s magic is working wherever he goes but he goes mostly to Amethi. Which leaves the rest of Uttar Pradesh wondering whom to vote for. Then there are the farmers, they want Rahul and they want relief and they want Ajit Singh and they want Mahendra Singh Tikait.
There are rumors about the Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh too. The darling of the Muslim voter and the underdog Mulayam’s life has always been a WWF competition, where victory depends on a million to one punch. When it comes to regional parties and regional politics UP takes the cake. For the Lok Sabha elections the voter thinks in terms of the National parties, the choice is clearly between the Congress and the BJP here and the BJP comes out the loser, because it is full of infighting. So what is the Congress in the state up to now a day? Infighting? Party elections? No clear leader? Who is going to be the CM in case I vote for Congress? Asks the voter.

There are no answers. But for once the Samajwadi Party cadre is upbeat in UP. After a long time party men are exchanging happy whispers. It is rumored that the Khan from Rampur will return to the party now. It is also rumored that a major Mulsim Tanzeem is likely to make an alliance with MSY as this seems the right thing to do at the moment.
There are several Muslim parties in the state of UP and they owe their existence to their God father, Dr Nehaluddin Ahmad who founded the All India Muslim Forum. Nehaluddin who went to jail twice to press for reservation for backward Muslims is seen by the leaders of these parties are some kind of mentor.

Today members of the Muslim Forum who have joined other parties are ministers like Abdul Mannan, others like Guinness Book World Record Holder Dr Ayub Ansari head organizations like the Peace Party.
The Peace Party faces a threat that stems from its success in the recent by-elections and the Lok Sabha elections. Its candidates have mopped up 20 to 50 thousand votes in several elections here and there. They have demolished many national level parties but they face criticism from their own voter today that they are agents of the BJP as they divide the Muslim vote and help non-Mulsim parties win. So what does Ayub do in such a situation?
Let us put it bluntly Mulayam Singh needs Ayub Ansari today and Ayub shall rid himself of the stigma of being a BJP agent if he forms an alliance with MSY. The result could be the SP forming the government in UP. However the Congress still has time to gear up.
But Mulayam is a wrestler. He knows he has grown old. He wants to fight for one last time, but his muscles are slow now, he lacks speed and agility, his joints have arthritis and he his low on stamina, so he is training for a knock out punch. He is training to make his punch so hard that every time he scores a hit, his opponent will feel he has just kissed the Shatabdi Express.
