Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav hold UP key

Omar Abdullah and Rahul Gandhi are good friends and this makes for good politics. The results of the elections in Jammu and Kashmir show that the people have rejected religious and separatist blackmail and started on the path of development once again. The state’s journey towards prosperity had been interrupted by a monster called neighbourhood fuelled separatism. Now rid of this monster the state can forge ahead.
But why is it so important that the scion of the Abdullah family and the Nehru-Gandhi family be friends?
For one they are both young and both share a common vision. They wish to strive ahead. Their relationship will make things easier for the government at the state to coordinate for the development of the state with the Central government. Therefore hey presto, J&K is blessed and so are its people. After years of strife, violence blood sweat and tears they will get to enjoy the fruits of a well earned democracy. So is there a lesson for Uttar Pradesh in this story?
New political equations are emerging in Uttar Pradesh. Even though the common folk and political pundits feel that the present Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Rita Bahuguna Joshi is not the best option, between her, Digvijay Singh and Rahul Gandhi the Congress has become more active than ever before in the state. The seat sharing formula that is coming up with the Samajwadi Party is another cause for the Congress and the people of Uttar Pradesh, especially the Muslim Community to rejoice.
For a while after the surprising Bahujan Samaj Party win in the Vidhan Sabha Elections the Muslims of the state had been left feeling rudderless. While some had backed the BSP others had done it out of compulsion and sheer necessity as they saw the Samajwadi Party receding in popularity.
The one plank on which the SP saw a decline in the state was its open door policy for the mafia in the state, whether it was the student leader mafia that took hafta from traders or the mafia that bagged huge government contracts on the point of a gun. Today the same trader sees a repeat performance in the events that led to the death of a PWD engineer in Auraiyya. The mafia the voter had tried to eliminate from the state is back with a bang (metaphorically speaking).
Today the future of UP politics seems to lie in the hands of two young men again. Akhilesh Yadav is emerging as a strong contender for the leadership of the state and the Muslims of UP see him as a possible choice. Rahul Gandhi too is being excessively liked for his level headed policies and politics, the difference between their style of operation is the same as there was between the two sons of Indira Gandhi, Sanjay and Rajiv. While Akhilesh brings with him the street fighting skills so vitally needed in UP politics, Rahul is Rajiv Gandhi’s clone as is now being likened to Mr Clean or Mr Pureheart, a person who speaks his mind frankly.
The two have already held a closed door meeting and the seat sharing formula is only days away. The price rise which had plagued the Congress has receded into the background, the recession may lot last till the date the general elections are held. Circumstances are switching in favour of the SP and Congress in UP. Rahul however has one drawback, his lack of street presence in UP makes him a distant dream for most people in the state. However if this friendship blossoms into political partnership, the future of the two parties is bright in the state.
