Is Air India Unsafe airline?
October 5th 2009 12:24
Is Air India an unsafe airline and should it be rated as one now? An international rating list for tourists exists on unsafe and unreliable airlines and Afghan Airways heads the list here. But if things continue the way they are then Air India despite the best efforts of the Tata scion and the government and the ministers concerned may be heading there. (See also Talkindia.org).
If a Times of India report is to be believed then the pilots of an Air India flight bound for the Gulf molested the air hostess when she walked into the cockpit, then when she resisted she was shoved out of the cockpit, Soon the two pilots emerged from the plane’s cockpit even as the craft was in midair as they saw the crew gathering in support of the girl.
Then a virtual cockfight is reported to have broken out in front of the cockpit and the hapless passengers. The passengers could only gape helplessly and clutch their safety belts for support.
After the fisticuffs were over things got back to normal and the plane flew to its destination much to the relief of the passengers even though there was some talk of diverting the flight to Pakistan.
Air India has of late been plagued by pilot problems and as such there has been considerable inconvenience for passengers.
But this latest situation is a little ticklish. There have been several incidents of all kinds in the past in several airlines, from drunken pilots to airhostesses performing a strip tease in the cockpit for the entertainment of pilots to affairs between pilots and airhostesses, and to airhostesses fighting over pilots in hotel bedrooms, but this takes the cake. If international tourism and travel agencies black list Air India then one would not be surprised.
