india tourism crimes

November 6th 2007 07:05
The Indian police is at its wits end trying to curb crimes against tourists and crimes being committed by tourists. Mostly these range from sexual offences to prostution and more and lesser crimes like someone stealing your wallet. An Ethiopian friend of mine once remarked, "everyone is a broker in Delhi, if you ask them to get you a taxi they will say...give me one dollar and I will." He was not speaking in just. Some crime infested areas of Delhi are
Paharganj which is also a hotspot of budget tourists. Once a red light area or a place where brothels were situated Paharganj has now become Hip Hop and modern. The hotels are swanky and cheap and this is exactly what the budget tourist is looking for. The area is also haunted by european and indian sex workers who find it easy to pick up customers there. The police have carried out several raids to suppress this traffic but to no avail.

The girls are both Indian and White and are available for both foregn and indian customers. Female tourists are often duped and gangraped if they are not wary of the tour operators as all kinds of thugs operate in the area. The recent case of two Japanese girls wa amazing they were taken to a famous hostorical city of Agra to see the Taj Mahal and then drugged and kept in a hotel for three days where they were repeatedly gang raped.
More common are cases of passports and wallets being stolen and so on or tourists pay in advance for a service and never recieve it because the person they paid simply disappears.
