Aussies and the washing machine in India
October 15th 2010 14:44
The Aussies have united the nation against them in outrage and helped the country forget everything from Ayodhya to the scams in the games. Daag acchey hai? Right?
Nationalism is a washing machine in a nation obsessed with removing stains and keeping shirts as white as possible. Washing powders are a national pastime and housewives are bound to be furious in India if someone disrespects a washing machine. So when an Australian athelete allegedly threw a washing machine 8 floors down to meet a gory end in the games village in Delhi the Indian nation was bound to be up in arms.
The incident comes at a time which could not have been better, it diverts national attention from the Ayodhya issue, the scam before the games and brings in much needed patriotism and national pride aided and complimented by a nice fat tally of medals to the rescue of all those who can now seek refuge behind nationalism and get rid of their taints and stains which is why they say in India, Daag Acchey Hai.
Today In the wake of what has happened in the games village the nation has forgotten everything, the media has forgotten everything and everyone is now focusssed on Aussie bashing.
Aussie bashing is easy as easy as it is for Rin to give whitening and Tide to give fragrance and Surf excel to get rid of stains. Today we see the minority community’s ire over the Babri Verdict vanishing with this incident. Forget Pink the Country is seeing Red.
Why are they seeing red. Because Australia was recently in the news for attacks against Indians. Australia was in the news for racist remarks against Indians and indeed if it had been any other country no one would have gone to the media to air dirty linen over destroying a washing machine.
Indians should be magnanimous at this stage. They should gift the tainted nation a washing machine and help them get rid of their stains. And such a washing machine should be fall proof and shock proof.
